USGS Will Continue to Provide Film Camera Calibration Services

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recognizes that the mapping and remote sensing service provided by the film camera continues to provide significant value to the government and industry. The USGS also understands the coincident value of continuing the film mapping camera calibration service that it has been providing at the USGS Optical Science Laboratory (OSL) for almost four decades. Based on the current, extensive feedback advocating that the OSL continue operation beyond 2012, the USGS has decided to pursue procurement options to buy additional glass calibration plates and extended the OSL calibration service capability beyond 2012. Carl Pulfrich Award 2011

Dr. Carl Pulfrich founded 1909 The Photogrammetric Week Series as a “Vacation Course in Stereo-Photogrammetry”. The Carl Pulfrich Award Ceremony 2011 is also part of the Opening Session of the 53rd Photogrammetric Week, Stuttgart, Sept 5-9, 2011.

The Canadian Institute of Geomatics is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Matthew Tait, PEng PhD as President for the year 2010-2011. Dr. Tait is Manager of Pipeline Geomatics for WorleyParsons Canada located in Calgary. An award-winning University teacher and senior Geomatics Engineer specializing in engineering surveying, Dr. Tait brings to the Institute a new energy for renewal and an interest in the certification of those involved in the geomatics sciences. The appointment was made at the recent Annual General Meeting held in conjunction with the Geomatics Atlantic 2010 Conference held in Fredericton.

BCIT Geomatics Speaker series
Topic: GeoAutomation - Survey-Enabled Streetscape Imagery

This 1 hour presentation is free to attend. It is hosted by the Vancouver Branch of the Canadian Institute of Geomatics.

We invite speakers to make presentations to the Geomatics students. Over the last three years we did the presentations at lunch time and they were called Brown Bag Lunch presentations. Now with the afternoon time slot the program is called the BCIT Geomatics Speaker series.

If the topic is of interest please attend. It is free.

Also if you are interested in making a presentation at BCIT we will be looking for 4 more speakers for the next term starting January and ending in May 2011. Just let me know by email.

At its meeting in Sydney, Australia April 11-16, 2010, the FIG General Assembly elected Teo CheHai from Malaysia as new FIG President for the period 2011-2014. Chryssy Potsiou (Turkey) and Rudolf Staiger (Germany) were each elected as Vice Presidents for 4 years, 2011 - 2014 and Dalal Alnaggar (Egypt) was elected for 2 years, 2011-2012. The next General Assembly in 2014 will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
