“The Geomatics Atlantic 2017 Conference:

150 Years of Canadian Geomatics”

Aim: Geomatica is the quarterly peer-reviewed journal of the Canadian Institute of Geomatics (CIG). It is dedicated to the dissemination of information on scientific and technical advances in the field of geomatics science and engineering.


Papers for this special issue must present original research contributions in all aspects of geomatics. This is an open call for papers. However, selected papers from the Geomatics Atlantic 2017 Conference, to be held in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador on Nov. 23–24, 2017, will be invited for submission. Scope: Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry and GIS Algorithms and Applications
  • Unmanned Airborne Systems (UASs) Algorithms and Applications
  • Geomatics for Environmental Monitoring (Marine, Wetlands, Forests, Wildlife Habitat, Icebergs)
  • GPS, Surveying, and Mapping
  • Natural Resources Applications (Oil and Gas, Mining, Forestry, Fishing)

Submissions: Papers should be submitted to email: before the deadline in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx). Figures should be embedded in the text, including references and excluding abstract and captions and have a maximum of 8 figures and tables in total. The manuscript should be in single column using 1.5 lines spacing with 11 or 12 point font Times New Roman or Arial and with the lines numbered. Each paper should not exceed 9 000 words. Geomatica is the official quarterly peer-reviewed journal of the Canadian Institute of Geomatics (CIG). The journal welcomes research papers and articles from aca demia, government and industry, and regularly curates special issues on spe cialized topics in GIS. Canadian and international perspectives are encouraged.

Scope In 2017 the journal enters its 95th year of publishing in this year of Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation. We encour age geomatics spe cial ists in all sectors to consider submitting their work. Reports and technical arti cles as well as referred papers will be considered. Authors submitting papers for peer review must present original contributions in aspects of geospatial science. Potential subject areas include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Surveying
  • GIS
  • Remote sensing
  • Cartography
  • Photogrammetry
  • Hydrography
  • Geodesy
  • Marine geomatics
  • Digital mapping
  • Spatial data infrastructure
  • Satellite positioning and navigation
  • Engineering and mining surveys
Submissions Manuscripts may be submitted in English or in French. Papers will be selected and reviewed based upon their suitability for the journal and with reference to the current Reviewer’s Guide for Geomatica.
