Geomatics incorporates a wide range of spatially related disciplines including cartography , geodesy, remote sensing, surveying, photogrammetry, satellite positioning and geographic information systems (GIS) , all of which can be brought together to help provide a thorough understandable depiction of the human and physical world. To have a successful career in geomatics one must build upon a solid foundation starting with geographic education.
The Canadian Institute of Geomatics recognizes the importance of geographic education and the significant role that it plays in a young geomatics professional’s career. We are pleased to dedicate this section of the website to promote and highlight geographic education programs and geospatial related career opportunities in British Columbia.
Geographic Education Poster Series
Geography Helped Me Get Where I am Now
The BC Geographic Education Posters are created to help young people identify some of the endless possibilities that learning geography provides, by highlighting the various different geography related post-secondary education programs and geospatial related career opportunities available.
All the geomatics related professionals featured here are graduates from various British Columbia high schools and have followed a variety of post-secondary paths, including both colleges and universities, to get where they are today. - Geography Matters!
The custom designed posters are professionally printed and sent to the corresponding high school that the featured professional graduated from. We believe that this initiative helps promote both high school geography and our industry, ultimately resulting in more students pursuing geospatial studies and careers after they leave high school. It also provides more knowledge to the teachers, parents, and general public about what our industry does, and how we provide services and knowledge that they depend upon every day.

Clicking on any of the images below will open up a dedicated page for each individual with a larger digital PDF version of the poster (that you can print and hang up in your classroom) and a summary of that person’s post-secondary path, and his/her present job.
We have 4 posters created and will add more images and narratives here in the future, so please check back, or contact us if you want to get involved in the BC Geographic Education Poster Series.
