Posting Title: STO-24R - Survey Coordinator - (105223) The Provincial Field Services unit is the delivery component of the Ministry’s highway construction and rehabilitation programs and is responsible for direct field administration of grading, surface paving, and seal coating works throughout the province, covering contracted and day labour projects (planned and emergency response). Provincial Field Services work encompasses all aspects of those administration services and the technical aspects of these construction disciplines. The Survey Coordinator provides direct technical specialists services in construction survey and geomatics fields, including associated technical and administrative tasks, to meet the highway construction requirements and ministry specifications and standards, including training/mentoring Provincial Field Services construction surveyors as and when required. Qualifications for this role include: • Degree or diploma in Survey or Geomatics or Civil Engineering/Technology and a minimum of 5 years of experience in highway transportation surveying and drawing preparation OR • Secondary School graduation with a minimum 10 years of directly related experience in highway construction survey. • Demonstrated experience in operation of precision GNSS and terrestrial survey equipment and related software, especially Survey Trimble Access, Trimble Business Centre and Trimble products used in highway construction. • Demonstrated experience in the use of Civil 3D with respect to Highway construction ground modelling, drafting, and drawing compilation. • Preferred experience with and knowledge of Terrestrial Laser Scanner • Valid B.C. driver’s license.

Qualifications for this role include:

This is a 9-month tenure-accruing position that will be 60% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station) and 40% teaching (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences - CALS) available in the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences (SFFGS), Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit.
The faculty member is expected to establish and lead a research program in Surveying Engineering, and to seek contract and grant funding actively to support their program area. Duties will also include developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Surveying Engineering, Mapping, and Practice and/or other related Geomatics courses using the latest technologies and approaches for engaged learning, including online modalities. Faculty members are expected to participate in service activities at the program, school, college, and university levels as well as serve their discipline through engagement in professional societies and through manuscript and proposal review, and editorial activities.
The faculty member will participate actively in undergraduate and graduate education by chairing graduate committees, serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis and dissertation research, publishing the results with their graduate students, advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, participating in curriculum revision and enhancement, seeking funding for the teaching program, and engaging in professional development activities related to teaching and advising.
A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Surveying, Geomatics, Geodesy, or closely related discipline (e.g., Engineering) is required. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in teaching and research in Geomatics, verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, procurement of extramural funding, and forming and working in partnership with industry, agencies, and organizations. Examples of demonstrating these skills include but are not limited to number and quality of, and feedback resulting from: courses instructed; presentations; workshops administered; papers/articles published; and research projects in which the candidate led or participated.
